Employee spotlight – Lindsey Dumper
Lindsey joined MiCiM as a project manager in 2024. Lindsey’s enjoyed a varied career in the industry and is now a highly valued member of the MiCiM team.
What was your career and educational path to where you are today?
My career path has been created by just taking opportunities as soon as I saw them. I first started out going to paint pipes for my dad’s company for some extra money. My dad is a coded welder, once I saw him welding, I was very interested! I then applied to multiple companies to carry out an apprenticeship where they all declined, so my Dad supported me through my 5 year apprenticeship at Croydon College where I achieved a Level 3 in pipefitting and Class 2 in Gas (oxyacetylene) and ARC welding. I did this for around 8 years in total working on all sorts of fantastic projects such as data centres, hospitals, leisure centres, commercial / shopping centres, schools and even domestic housing.
I then moved into estimating, then into commercial contracts, Engineering then into MEP services consultancy. I really liked the Data centre industry, so I decided to take the leap back into it by moving to a tier 1 data centre construction company. The work life balance did not work as I have a young daughter.
I attended the London Build expo back in 2022 where there was a woman in construction network event hosted by MICIM. I met Richard Herrington and then team and really liked the company’s ethos and visions for the future.
Why did you choose to come to MiCiM?
I joined MICIM as I really liked there way of working and understanding of working parents. They are keen for people to progress within the business, and you are seen as a person with a name, not just a number! I feel MICIM has a great future, and I am excited to be part of it.
What are you enjoying about working with us?
Everyone one I have met here at MICIM has been very supportive and encouraging. they have a great work ethos and allow you to be creative and use your expertise, in fact they encourage this. There is always someone to go to with questions and within the company there is so much knowledge and experience, it offers great opportunities for personnel and knowledge growth.
What advice would you have for young people who want to work in the industry?
The construction industry is a fast-paced industry where things are always changing and there are always problems to overcome, what about that does not sound interesting!
From my experience I would say get as much site experience as you can, understand the end goals, what it is that’s being installed and how it is installed. Always ask questions and don’t be afraid to aim higher!
